Learn how to drive in style

Near my office, there is a driving school. I often see this company’s cars carefully navigating the wide roads in our office complex as young drivers learn the complexities of turn signals and breaking.

Now they have a Corvette convertible. This car must be for the advanced students who want to learn how to keep their hair out of their face as they dodge speed traps.

Looks like A Auto Driving School needs to do a better job teaching its students how to park. Or maybe, this is how yuppies who drive expensive cars learn how to take up two spaces so their car doors don’t get dinged.

ALA With Nothing to Say

Posted Thursday, August 11th, 2005 at 11:03 pm

There was a time when I used to eagerly anticipate Fridays.

Not because Fridays marked the end of the workweek, but because A List Apart would release a new online article about web design, standards, accessibly, or server-side scripting.

These days, however, it appears ALA has lost its voice.

Its most recent article was published in May 2005 and marked its 200th Issue. We haven’t heard from the site since.

Perhaps Zeldman and crew are too busy working on other projects, or perhaps the need for a community-authored publication has dwindled.

I hope not.

Though I think its great that more and more people are sharing their creations and knowledge via the web; we need more sites like A List Apart to aggregate and feature the best content and ideas.

I once had the good fortune of having an article of mine published on A List Apart. Inspired by what I had learned from others, I felt compelled to come up with an original idea or solution that I could share as a token of appreciation.

Sadly, ALA’s Contribute page is closed for business, reading “A List Apart is not accepting new articles at this time. Watch this space.”

ALA, we’re watching. We need the inspiration you delivered us for 200 issues. Though I frequently visit the personal sites of many of your authors, your ability to aggregate and share their best ideas made my Friday.

I hope you come up with something to say, for I’d love to hear from you again.

Staff Begins Using iMIS

Posted Monday, August 8th, 2005 at 10:59 pm

Today, our staff began using the Live version of iMIS, Lambda Chi Alpha’s new CRM.

Aside from a few bugs and missed procedures, our staff and iMIS got along just fine. Three of our team members spent most of the day processing membership status changes while JB and I tackled the biggest bugs.

I just want to publicly thank the team members involved with this project:

  • Joe Klimek, CFO, deal closer, and backup techie / project manager
  • JB (Joshua Bennett), SQL guru and lead developer
  • Doug Morris from CSI, our reseller, vendor, and support
  • LCA Staff, for being patient and supportive as we switch from a 10-year-old CRM to a new way of managing our members and information

Thank you all. We still have a lot more to accomplish, but the beginning is finally here.

Pricey Gas

Pricey Gas

I believe $2.62 per gallon is the most I’ve ever paid for gas.

Garage Water Leak

After getting home at 10:30 p.m. from a long day of work, I find a leak dripping in my garage.

Though it could have been dripping where my car usually parks, the leak instead appeared right over all of my stuff. Brand new furniture in unopened boxes, books, photos, and several electronic items were already soaked.

Good news is my neighbors pulled up a few minutes later. We troubleshot the problem and found the source to be their AC unit and hot water heater. They rent, so I’ll have to get in touch with their landlord to resolve the matter.

Just when I finally had everything fixed (repaired the shower last week), another problem pops up.

Click on the photos I posted on Flickr for a visual damage report. Or try the video I posted YouTube.
