Patrick called from Guyana

Posted Thursday, May 1st, 2003 at 10:54 pm

Last night I received a phone call from my good buddy Patrick, who is currently serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guyana. He and his wife are in LA for a wedding this weekend. They are doing great down there and can’t believe that a full year is behind them. As always, we had a good time sharing stories. Thanks for the call.

Oh, and if it wasn’t a small world already, he lived close to where my brother currently lives. Patrick is going to stop by my brother’s place before he returns back to Guyana. Small world.

Moved out of the Winne-the-Poo room

I feel like I have graduated, for tonight, I move out of the Winne-the-Poo room and into the second master bedroom.

For the last month, I have been sleeping in a small, nursery room that is smaller than many walk-in closets. We call it the Winne-the-Poo room because it has the loveable bear as a trim along the top of the walls.

The reason I stayed in this room was to wait for Mike to move out of the master bedroom on May 1. Now that hes out, I can move in.

Before moving in, however, I spent most of the night steam cleaning the upstairs carpets. After emptying bucket after bucket of black, filthy water, I feel much more comfortable. Not to mention how much better the carpets now look, although there is only so much you can do with toxic green.

Next on my agenda is to buy a mattress and bedroom furniture set. Im really keen on getting a Scandinavian design, so well see. In the meantime, I will continue to live out of boxes.

Volleyball in Westport

Found some good volleyball competition last weekend. I crashed a by-invitation-only indoor event on Friday night at the Westport YMCA. They let me play. While I was weaker than most, I held my own and was invited out for drinks later that night. Nice folks.

I was then invited to join them Sunday afternoon to play some grass volleyball in a nearby park. It was a great afternoon for it. Good level of play. They say they also play Tuesday and Thursday nights. So it looks like I might have found a good venue, although I’m still looking for an indoor USAV team to join.
